Since Coach Bakich was named Clemson's New Baseball Coach, he has been on a tear in the recruiting of great talent for the 2022/23 class. I was able to catch up and interview one of the new pitchers, and former Michigan commit Drew Titsworth.
Jay: First off Drew, thank you for your time, I know it's still a very busy time for you, how does a soon to be college baseball player spend his summer?
Drew: I spend most of my time in the car traveling between baseball tournaments and going to our cabin. Other than baseball I like to spend my summer fishing, kayaking, and golfing.
Jay: In my research I see you played for the Indiana Bulls 17U National Team, how did that come about, and how did it finish?
Drew: It was a good season; it was my first year being a pitcher only, and it was definitely something new. It was different showing up for just a day or 2 to be able to pitch a game and then go home. It was a fun summer though and I enjoyed it allot.
Jay: Now I would like to step back in time, when did you think I want to commit to Michigan, and play for Coach Bakich?
Drew: Michigan was a school I wanted to go to as a young child. Coach Bakich happened to be the coach there when I was getting into the recruiting process. I grew close to Coach Bakich and created a bond with him. After that I realized that I wanted to play college baseball for him.
Jay: So, we know what comes next Coach Bakich decides to come to Clemson, what was your thoughts about him leaving, then what made you want to follow him?
Drew: I was in total shock when he announced that he was leaving. It was something that I wasn't expecting at all. I knew almost instantly that I wanted to follow Coach Bakich and go to Clemson.
Jay: When you visited Clemson what was your first thought? Other than Coach Bakich, what made you think Clemson was for you?
Drew: The first thought was the campus reminded me of my hometown. A little town of its own not really near any big cities. So, I think the campus setting and then the baseball facilities drew me to the program along with Coach.
Jay: Now according to Baseball America and your biggest fan your dad Rob, you throw a 94-mph fastball plus your sinker, and slider, do you feel these 3 pitches gives you a edge over other pitchers?
Drew: I think the ability to be able to tunnel those 3 pitches gives me a advantage. Starting them all in the same spot and I run it down and into the arm side, and then the slider will break away. So being able to do that can be deceiving to hitters.
Jay: Finally Drew, if you could pick any team in the MLB to play for, who would it be and why?
Drew: I grew up watching a lot of Dodgers baseball on Youtube from a channel called 'Dodger films' so I think if I could choose a team, it would be them.
Jay: Drew thanks again for your time, and we wish you the best of luck this season, it's been an honor talking to you!
Interview with Drew Titsworth, special thanks to his dad Rob for helping me set this up.
