First I want to say its been a pleasure covering this football team this year. I'm learning the ropes so bare with me as I go through this weeks CSN Jays thoughts.
1. Injury Bug: #15 Troy Stellato (Torn ACL) will be redshirted, #80 Beaux Collins (Shoulder) should be back in a week, #6 EJ Williams (hematoma) should be back next week, #3 Xavier Thomas (lower leg) unsure at the moment, #16 Myles Oliver (shoulder) out for the year redshirt, #10 Joseph Ngata (upper neck area) already back, #8 Adam Randall (leg) will be hopefully soon, #77 Mitchell Mayes (concussion protocol) be back next week .
2. Punters started off dreadful but rebounded later in the week with Aiden Swanson really making noise. By Saturday scrimmage Dabo was happy with some of the special teams play, but made no mistake saw plenty they could improve upon.
3. QB situation looks great as the whole QB room was doing a great job lead by #5 DJ Uiagalelei and #2 Cade Klubnik. Dabo stressed he has been pleased with his QBs so far and expects that to carry over into the season. DJ is earning his right to be the starting QB.
4. The WR room was also looking great till the injuries hit Friday to 3 stars. Beaux, EJ, and Troy was all hit, yet 2 (Beaux and EJ) are expected to be back soon. #0 Antonio Williams has really caught the coaches eyes as well as #16 Will Taylor. Will be a great room if it can stay healthy.
5. The defense has been what people expected. Big, physical, and nasty is the basic saying when bringing these guys up. #11 Bryan Breese has returned to form, and with #98 Miles Murphy and the rest of the front seven, opponents will be running for cover. The back half is also looking great at #1 Andrew Mukuba and surprise #20 CB Nate Wiggens showing they will not be a weak link.
Lastly the OL, RB, and TE groups also looked great and are going to be strong as we go into the first game vs. Georgia Tech.
