Monday night Clemson takes a small trip down to Atlanta Georgia to face one of its rivals in Georgia Tech. This game during its early years was more competitive and was a true test for the Tigers. In recent years its lost its luster and has been a Clemson warm up game for its next opponent. Georgia Tech Head Coach Geoff Collins has allot to prove and many say he is on a hot seat to perform or be replaced. Facing a team like Clemson to start off is not a great way to do that. Lets look at a small breakdown of the teams.
Clemson: QB DJ Uiagalelei is posed to show that losing extra weight, better leadership, and last years offensive injuries and woes are behind him. He will have to prove it early as Freshman QB Cade Klubnik will be pushing to be better or fans will be yelling for DJ to be replaced. All three of Clemson's RB core are healthy also with Shipley leading the charge. WR is the true question with so many missing practices due to injury, getting reps will be huge in the first 3 games to see where this very talented yet injury prone group stands. Our TE group looks great, Coach Richardson has really upgraded the room and we can expect great things this year from them. The offensive line will be one of the best ever in Clemson if they can stay healthy. Freshman Blake Miller has earned his spot alongside Walker Parks, Jordan McFadden, and others. On the other side of the ball Clemson defense is what you can expect, nasty and physically overwhelming. Coach Wes Goodwin has his men ready to change the narrative that they will be down due to Venables leaving. The once thought weak spot the secondary is going to be better than advertised, with Fred Davis, Sheridan Jones, and Nate Wiggens will be strong along with Andrew Mukuba at Safety. The front seven will be the best in college football going 2 deep, thats right 2 deep. Murphy, Breese, Davis, Simpson, XT, XJ, the list just keeps going. This defense will be unreal as once again staing healthy is the key. Special teams will be one to watch at punter, as both PK BT Potter will share with Aidan Swanson the Punter duties. Will Taylor and Antonio Williams punt return, and Shipley kick off returns. As a whole Clemson looks very strong heading into the season with very few question marks. We will see where this Tiger Team lands after the Tech game nationally.
As for Georgia Tech there is very little to see as not much has been said about them. They have a pretty good QB in Jeff Simms, and WR EJ Jenkins. Defense is suspect, LB Charlie Thomas is the leader, they have allot to prove in this game. This is year four and the team has gone nothing but backwards since Collins was hired. It’s squarely on the coaching staff. The transition from the flexbone doesn’t excuse having one of the worst defenses in FBS in year 3, especially for a self-proclaimed “defensive savant.”
In general, Collins’ approach and premise was flawed from the start, which the AD should’ve seen out of the gate. They are still not sure why he was hired. He came in claiming recruiting and stars were going to start winning us games at Tech, seemingly not realizing that Tech’s academic restrictions and budget limitations mean there’s no possible way for them to compete with the Bamas, Clemsons, and UGAs that surround them and go after those same kids. Four and five-star kids out of high school are not going to be interested in coming here for the academic reputation when schools within an hour or two drive are offering 6-figure NIL deals to come to their school instead.
Well thats my thoughts, my score prediction is Clemson 42-3...
