Coach Dabo Swinney had some great news about freshman wide receiver, Adam Randall, on Sunday. He said, "he will be cleared to go play this week, so excited about getting him back in the fold and getting him going." This will be the first time he suits up for the Tigers, as he has missed the first two games of the year due to an ACL tear that happened in the spring. So, the question becomes, "What can we expect to see from him on the field?"
To answer that, the first thing we need to look at is what he was doing the last time he was playing in real games. As a four-star wide receiver out of Myrtle Beach, SC, Randall was a force on the field. In his senior season, Adam had 65 catches for 1,267 yards and 16 touchdowns, and he added over 300 yards and 7 more touchdowns on the ground. He was consistently a problem for defenses; on his senior night, he proved this by having an insane stat-line of 255 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns, on 10 catches. With stats like these, it's clear why signing Randall was such a big deal for the Tigers, but what really separates him is the way he is talked about by coaches and teammates.
When quarterback, Cade Klubnik, was asked about what Adam Randall brings to the offense, he couldn't help but smile saying, "He's gonna bring some stuff. I'm so excited to watch him play. I think it's not something you can describe, it's just gonna happen." Klubnik is clearly ecstatic to see what his fellow freshman teammate can do, but the praise for Randall doesn't stop there. Offensive coordinator, Brandon Streeter, had a similar reaction; he said, "just excited about that kid, man. I'm just really, really excited." He went on to talk about how good Adam has looked in practice, focusing on his physicality and speed. Coach Streeter raved about how well the 6'2, 230-pound freshman performed in the spring and said he expects good things. However, the person who seems to be the most excited about Adam Randall's debut is starting quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei. DJ said, "super happy to have him out there. I think he's going to be an impact player." Uiagalelei's best description of the freshman was, "Adam Randall, man, he's a beast." Compliments like this coming from the guy who will be throwing the ball to Randall give a ton of hope for what kind of player Adam Randall can be for Clemson this year.
All signs point to Adam Randall making an immediate impact for the Tigers, and with an offense that has already shown incredible improvement in the first two weeks, this addition could really put Clemson over the edge. Clemson takes on Louisiana Tech this Saturday at 8:00 pm, in Death Valley. This will be the first chance to catch Randall in action, and it should be must-see TV.
